List - Serialized Items Topic

You can use the serialized item lists to define a positional structure which presents an as-configured view of a particular serialized instance of a physical item with child components fitted into specified positions and optionally presenting alternative items that can also be fitted into the same position.

AssetWise regards the serial item list as a document, which means that a document must be defined in the document table. The document must also be defined as a document class (Type = Serial List). For more information, see Managing Object Classes.

The document must also be related to the physical item it underwrites before the components (child items) can be defined for a specific item. When the item list document is approved, the serialized structure of the item will be frozen.

To change the serialized item list after the document has been approved, you must register a change request against the document. This will enable you to define a new revision of the serialized item list document, and hence a new serialized structure for the physical item.

Note: To create new serialized item list documents, you must enable the Configuration Item and Serialized attributes for the physical item.
